Common Ancestors, Distant Cousins and Famous Ancestors

Family history never fails to amaze me, and finding famous connections has always been an area I find interesting, from connections with Pocahontas, William the Conqueror, Dick Whittington, the Gun Powder Plot, Royalty, Ancient Rome family history has it all.

Recently I found a connection in my family tree to the Washington Family, so off cause I wanted to see how this branch of my family connected to George Washington (1732 – 1799) first President of United States, it turns out he’s my 8th cousin 9x removed and our shared ancestor is Robert Washington of Wharton, Lancashire (1445 – 1528) who I descend from through my grandfather William Llewellyn Bean. It turns out that George Washington is related to every President that has ever sat in office including the present Barack Obama, this link shows how – Look Who’s Related: George Washington and all the Presidents

The link above shows how small our world really is and how genealogy connects people, we are basically all related even if the connection exists in the long forgotten past.

below is a list of my family connections, a few of these I have mentioned before but many I have not, this is not a complete list and only scratches the surface of my family history, many of these people I connect too both paternally and maternally.

Common Ancestors

(i) My parents both share a common ancestor within the last 500 years making them 10th cousins, 1x removed.
Robert Greening of Litton Cheney, Dorset (1600 – 1671) is their 10x great-grandfather.

(ii) My maternal grandparents Joyce and William are connected by marriage – My grandmother’s 11th great grand-uncle was married to my grandfather’s 11th great grandaunt
William “Charter-Warden of Godalming” Peryor (1540 – 1626) & Joan Ellyott (1560 – 1634).

  1. Very cool. I guess I am less interested in connections to famous people because there are none that I can prove. When your records only go back less than 200 years, it’s not easy!

  2. Elizabeth I Queen of England

Birth 1533 in Palace of Placentia, Greenwich, London, England
