7 Days to War – Painting and Book Cover

Hi WordPress

For the last seven months or so, I have been putting a biography / book together dedicated to the life of my great grand-uncle; John George Woods, Private in the 6th Durham Light Infantry. He died in combat on the 26th April 1915, during the Second Battle of Ypres.

The first draft is near completion, and once finalised, proof read and edited it will be published as a non-profit print edition. At a later stage, I am hoping the book will reach a larger audience as an e-book.

Recently I have commissioned a piece of artwork for the book’s jacket cover, and hired a local County Durham artist to undergo this work.

    • Thank you very much for your comment :-). I still have a little way to go until the books completed.
Hopefully it will be the first of many and this is my way of recording a little about my family history, most importantly for sharing and remembering 🙂

      • Research takes up a huge amount of time for genealogists and even if we only manage to publish a small amount of our family history and the work we have completed, we at least leave a little mark on our family history and pass something valuable onto our descendants.
Good luck with publishing more of your work too 🙂

    • Thank you Dilber, the painting is incredible, I love the way you have created Ypres in the background and even the very small detail, like the DLI badge on his arm.
I have the painting on my wall at the moment and i’m discovering something new about it all the time.
A very, very big thank you 🙂
