I have compiled a Timeline for John Hounsell of Nettlecombe, Powerstock, Dorset for researchers looking for information about this branch of my tree. John has a very long criminal record and only just avoided a guilty verdict for the murder of his wife, he was acquitted on the grounds that she could have committed suicide.

  1. That’s quite a rap sheet…. Now if this was the record for someone more recent, would you feel comfortable posting it? I find that I am reluctant to post anything that might embarrass a living descendant. It’s an issue I struggle with and wish I could discuss with my fellow genealogists and bloggers.

    • Sorry, I haven’t been on Word Press in a while Amy, I have been very, very busy with lots and lots of research. I totally understand what you mean though in regards to the very long criminal activity of John Hounsel. His story though is very, very interesting.
      I do have a very distant uncle (1800’s) same branch of family that has a criminal record that I would most definitely be embarrassed to share. I’m sure if the man in question was still alive he would be eternally grateful. Hope all well, and your own research is coming along well too.
